Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year décor throughout the Richmond Cultural Centre and Annex is a partnership installation by the Chinese Artists Association of Richmond and the Chinese Ink and Brush Society.

Calligraphy Translation

福: "Good fortune" or "happiness", often displayed upside down to signify that good fortune is "arriving"

壽: "Long life"

春: "Spring," used on couplets to signify the start of spring and the new year

恭喜發財: "Congratulations and be prosperous," a common greeting

吉祥如意: "Good luck and happiness to you"

年年有餘: Literally "May there be surplus year after year" or "plentifully each year"

金蛇飛舞回仙洞

駿馬奔來勢如虹

The golden serpent dances and returns to the immortal cave


The spirited horse gallops forth, its momentum like a rainbow

雪舞漫天銀蛇去

花開遍地金馬來

Snow dances across the sky as the silver serpent departs


Flowers bloom everywhere as the golden horse arrives

百花齊放春光好

萬馬奔騰氣象新

Hundreds of flowers bloom together in spring


Thousands of horses gallop forth, the spirit of renewal fills the air

駿馬奔騰迎盛世

春風得意譜新篇

Fine horses gallop ahead, welcoming a prosperous year


The spring breeze, pleased and satisfied, composes a new chapter

馬蹄輕踏春風裡

童顏笑揚陽光中

Hooves step lightly, treading through the spring breeze


Children’s smiling faces glow in the sunshine

春風送暖迎新歲

福祿安康賀馬年

The spring breeze brings warmth, welcoming the New Year

Good fortune, peace, and health—celebrating the Year of the Horse

昂首駿馬馳千里

振翅鸿鹄博九天

A fine steed raises its head and gallops a thousand miles

Spreading its wings, the mighty bird soars across the sky

平安喜樂皆如意

春風送暖馬年到

Peace and joy, everything goes as wished


The spring breeze brings warmth as the Year of the Horse arrives

金馬昂首開新運

瑞氣盈門慶早春

The Golden Horse lifts its head, ushering in new fortune
