Learn more about different artistic practices in workshops led by specialized instructors. Classes fill up quickly, so be sure to register in advance. Workshops cost $10 per participant.

  • Kung Jaadee (Roberta Kennedy) is a professional storyteller, educator and published author belonging to the X̱aayda (Haida), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) First Nations. In her lively storytelling performances, she shares her telling of a few famous Haida legends about Raven (Yaahl), the creator of the world, including Raven’s Feast, which has also been published into a popular kids’ book found in libraries across Canada. She will also share some famous Squamish legends about the sights viewable from Vancouver’s Stanley Park, including Siwash Rock and The Two Sisters (The Lions mountains). Accompanied by her drum, she’ll sing some Haida songs and teach some basic words in Xaad Kil, Haida language. People of all ages will be captivated by these interesting legends that have universal lessons.

Join us for this early readers and writers workshop all about story building. Through games, exploration and guided prompts, students will learn techniques to shape their stories and explore individual creativity and confidence with stories and the self. Students will be able to share their work and learn resources to carry the practice in and out of the classroom.

  • Writing takes place in many exciting forms. In this two-part series, we will learn the different methods by which we can express poetry. In this workshop, we will combine writing prompts and exercises to develop a poem along with different styles we can use to incorporate our work. Whether it’s through collage, nature, or photography, Students are encouraged to take a practice they gravitate towards and use it to express it in their poems. No previous art or writing experience is needed.
